One Piece
Believe it or not, this is the most popular anime in Japan, even now. I swear they have one piece things in most stores. It's crazy. They even have the boat that you can ride on.
Re: One Piece
I know. One Piece is crazy over there. Like the new Dragon Ball.
I watched One Piece when it aired on Toonami a few years ago. I'd like to see it come back on the new Toonami, but finding a starting point would be tricky when it comes to attractive viewers; they can't start over from the beginning, because it'd take a LONG time to catch up to where they are in the dub.

Re: One Piece
AND from what I've been hearing toonami did some major editing on the show and that made views mad. So it couldbt become popular.
Re: One Piece
I thought it was 4kids that screwed up One Piece for America?
or did Toonami air the 4kids version? I don't remember...

Re: One Piece
Toonami didn't screw up One Piece, but it DID air the 4Kids version after the show was dropped from 4KidsTV, until the end of the Alabasta arc (I believe it was near the end of the arc when it made its move to Toonami), after that, the Funimation dub started airing in its place for several weeks, until it was removed from TV for whatever reason.

I remember the change in voice acting threw me for a bit
it just sounded weird to me hearing different voices after so long

Re: One Piece
Hence the name "4kids" ...damn America.-_- We are one of the most violent and sex crazed country and they censor that this? Sounds like denial.
Re: One Piece
Well, America also has a big religious backbone, and the moral guardians want to protect the kiddies from violent content.Cheza wrote:Hence the name "4kids" ...damn America.-_- We are one of the most violent and sex crazed country and they censor that this? Sounds like denial.
...They're not doing a good job at that, though. Go figure.

Haha exactly! Kids find ways to watch this stuff now. Especially with the internet.
Re: One Piece
Exactly. I will make a thread about fanfiction.net. I bet it's parents fault for that one.
But anyways, this anime is too popular. lol I think it's so popular in Japan because the older generation grew up with it and it's different from the Japanese culture(so i've heard)

Re: One Piece
If that was the case, naruto wouldnt be like the most popular one in the US. Actually, Naruto isnt really as popular in Japan as it is in the US. I was surprised.
Re: One Piece
I thought Naruto was okay, but after a while I started wondering "When is this going to be over?"
they kinda dragged on with their goals. it seemed like they eventually just forgot about Orochimaru.

Re: One Piece
Yep. Both Naruto and Bleach are more popular in America than they are in Japan. It's the opposite with One Piece.Cheza wrote:If that was the case, naruto wouldnt be like the most popular one in the US. Actually, Naruto isnt really as popular in Japan as it is in the US. I was surprised.
I guess because Naruto and Bleach are more appealing to Americans, and Americans can't take One Piece seriously because of its artstyle (which is stupid, but that's how people are).
Re: One Piece
Actually I loved One Piece way more than Bleach or Naruto
I gave up on watching Bleach a while ago, and I only watched the first season or two of Naruto

Yeah. Because ninja and samuri type things arent in American culture, so Americans can find more interest in that.
Yeah the artwork is weird. Japan has never had pirates, so that's probably why it's so popular.
Re: One Piece
I'm sure Japan has had pirates in their past. Maybe not as we'd recognize them, but pirates nonetheless.
As for the artstyle, Japan is just more accepting of cutesy things outside of childhood. I mean, look at this:

Not that I'd call One Piece "cutesy", but you can see where I'm going.

Lol dont get me started on cuteness.
But wasnt the creator of One Piece the student of the creator of Dragonball?
Re: One Piece
Well, for me it depends on what it is. I won't always like something solely because it's cute. ...Unless it's a girl.Guardian Dragon wrote:cute stuff is awesome, and I've always been more partial to cute stuff than not so cute stuff
I don't know about that, but I know that Oda (One Piece guy) was very influenced by Toriyama's (Dragon Ball guy) work.Cheza wrote:Lol dont get me started on cuteness.

That probably was it. Also the person that made fairy tales or something was inspired by oda. Looks just like one piece stuff.O_O
Re: One Piece
That's because he used to work under Oda while working on One Piece. When he left to do his own thing, obviously some of Oda's style carried over to Fairy Tail.Cheza wrote:That probably was it. The Fairy Tail guy also did Rave Master.
