English Voice Actors
i dont usually even LIKE dubs . . . in fact i friggin HATE them BUT . . . there are a few great voice actors that do great work. i wanted to share with u up and coming voice actresses and actors who make anime better for those of us that jus are not good at reading subs and watching at tha same time without slaughtering their rolls
first up is my favorite so far. infact, she should hav been tha one to do Saeko's voice in tha english dubs for HOTD, IMHO . . . her name is Danielle McRae aka fairuzathelolita (on youtube) and here is some of her excellent work
she is starting to break into tha industry now with news of some secret projects both anime and video game

Re: English Voice Actors
I only watch a dub if it's good, otherwise I watch subbed. I'm a big fan of Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, I first heard her in the first GIG of GitS:SAC, heard her in loads of Anime and games since.
Re: English Voice Actors
you're more than welcome to post some of her work this is tha place to do it and id like to hear some more great voice actors
Re: English Voice Actors
I'd rather watch subbed over dubbed. A lot of times the dubbed version edit wayyy too much. And i think the Japanese voice actors sound cuter and better. There seem to be for emotion the raw versions. Dubbed sometimes have bad actors.
Re: English Voice Actors
thas true . . . but like with danielle's case here . . . i really would like to hear more of her
and as far as Naruto . . . ugh . . . dont get me started -_-'

Re: English Voice Actors
I know, it's just awful! I first watched Guyver the Bio Boosted Armor online subbed, then got it on DVD. I watched it dubbed for about 15 minutes, the changed to subbed, the voice actors were so flat and boring.
Re: English Voice Actors
my first time experiencing a anime dubbed was years ago but when youre a child u hardly notice how retarded tha voices sound cuz of tha bright colors and flashing animation lolz . . . now if its bad i jus cant stand it . . . its like nails to a chalk board *shivers* uggh
Re: English Voice Actors
I've been lucky enough to never see a dub that was horrible, but I have evaded dubs (like Soul Eater) if I hear negative reception from fans. Is Soul Eater's dub as bud as my anime club says? I wouldn't be too surprised if they're right.

yup i actually decided to go ahead and watch Code Geass dubbed. i watched it with my husband and we both thought it was done well enough that we could focus on tha epic storyorochigirl wrote:I like the dub of Code Geass, I think that was good
Re: English Voice Actors
Dubs have come a long way. A lot of them are pretty good now.
Bare in mind that if you could understand Japanese, you'd hear that it's not all good either. Or so I hear.

Re: English Voice Actors
true indeed . . . ive heard some weird things . . . even in japanese subs
oh that reminds me . . . another thing that gets on my nerves is translators
sometimes when they do subs for anime that hav jus come out they think its funny
to put things in there that isnt what it translates to . . . like example: when i
was watching psychic detective yakumo they put tha "n" word instead of
bastard (which is what was really said) i dont kno if anyone else saw that
before they switched it out but myself i havent seen this happen MUCH but often
enough that it irritates me =/

Re: English Voice Actors
Probably to make the show seem more "hardcore" than it actually is.
I remember hearing about an old Dragon Ball Z sub that had a swear word in every sentence. Because of that, people started thinking that the Japanese version of DBZ had a lot of swearing in it, when in actuality it did not.
I also hate when subbers leave simple words untranslated, such as "nakama" and "keikaku"; I even saw a screencap of Death Note where Light said "Just as keikaku" and in the translator's note it said "'Keikaku" means plan". -_-

Re: English Voice Actors
Indeed. That's part of the reason why I'd take a decent (or at least passable) dub over a sub. The other reason is that I find subs distracting from the actual show, so I only watch them if I don't have a choice.
Re: English Voice Actors
i dont find them distracting at all . . . infact their helpful to me bc ive picked up a lot of conversational japanese . . . plus my kids are really noisy so it helps that tha words are there cuz sometimes i jus couldnt hear it if i wanted to =/
Re: English Voice Actors
There are useful phrases in anime sometimes. I learned a few words from anime before I started learning Japanese.
Re: English Voice Actors
nice! well i was hoping i wasnt tha only one i jus need to get reading tha letters down and being able to write/type them in correct sentence structure
Re: English Voice Actors
IMO older dubs(pre-2000) are better than recent dubs(2000+)

Re: English Voice Actors
i still think it varies . . . depending on what voice actors they had in tha first place . . . sometimes tha ppl they pick didnt even actually fit with tha char =/
