The Matrix Trilogy
yes i know the first film was awesome, but the other two do have some very good parts.
Also there is the whole Animatrix thing (oh snap bringing an OT into the theme of the forum)
so discus some of the underling themes of the films

Re: The Matrix Trilogy
for me the matrix is a exercise in "what if this world that we live in, and everyone we know, is false." the theme of each movie is different in that it is told though different perspectives. the first is of a hacker who gets caught up in a very non-internet porn alternate reality. this being the best of the three motion pictures and the most original. making us question our existence, that we as a species never really grasped the meaning of "what am i suppose to do" for neo it was just a crappy nokia cell phone call from fate. for us its more difficult than that. the second film, though not really following the spirit of the first and became subconsciously preachy. almost too much. in ever shot of a license plate the numbers there as well as the letters were quotes from the bible. EXAMPLES
=================================================================
In the highway chase scene, the license plate on Trinity's car says DA203. If you look in Daniel 2:3, which says "he said to them, 'I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means.'" This is possibly making reference to Neo's dream, because he went to the oracle partly to figure out what his dream about Trinity meant. The biblical text is speaking about King Nebuchadnezzar's searching for the meaning of his dream. In Verse 3, the Nebuchadnezzar says, "I have dreamed a dream." In Verse 5, when asked to explain his dream, he says, "The thing is gone from me" (all this is from the classic King James Version). Near the end of the movie as the Nebuchadnezzar explodes as a result of the sentinels' bomb, Morpheus says "I have dreamed a dream, and now that dream has gone from me."
Near the beginning of the film, Agent Smith drives up in an Audi with the license plate "IS 5416". This appears to be yet another Bible reference--Isaiah 54:16--reads as follows (from the King James Version): "Behold, I have created the SMITH that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy." (Capitals are for emphasis).
Towards the end of the movie when Trinity is actually going into the matrix on the motorcycle to help turn off the emergency power systems, it appears that the licence plate on her motorcycle said PS352. If you look in Psalms 35:2 (New International Version), it says, "Take up shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid." This could be alluding to how, though he doesn't know it, Neo needs Trinity's help in turning off the emergency power systems so he can reach the door that the keymaker is
taking him to, that ultimately leads to the architect.
In the highway chase scene, the license plate on the Twins' truck said DE2852. If you look in Deuteronomy 28:52 (NIV), it says, "They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down." This is possibly making reference to the sentinels coming to attack Zion, which up until the end of Reloaded, has been the humans safe haven and their "high fortified walls" against the machines.
=================================================================
now for the third film, it is steeped in subtext as well as borrows references from Dante's inferno. the movies are so thick with meaning and religious undertones that they made a documentary on it.
in closing i doubt that any other movie will be discussed as much as this one. i have left out alot of my thoughts on this movie because i dont want to TL;DR myself for which i fear has already happened. still i got what i wanted to say out there and hope that someone cares enough to read it.
