Another blow to anime on TV in America
I've learned on another forum that SyFy's anime block--which brought us such titles as Monster and Gurren Lagann--will be discontinued in 3 weeks.
It's sad, but between it, the lack of new anime on Adult Swim, and the near complete lack of anime on basic cable elsewhere, the anime industry in America seems to be in dire times.

Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
actually . . . it DOES effect us and it makes absolutely no sense that . . . if they want us to BUY anime instead of it being pirated or hosted on sites, then they SHOULD STRONGLY push for america to hav a channel dedicated to anime only. i think its a way that everyone can be happy. we watch tha anime which in turn makes tha network tha anime is on more popular and in turn tha creators and animators and publishers get tha money they need! . . . its rediculous that no one has even attempted tha idea when we hav dumb a** CN and AS . . . =/
Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
That sucks :/ I never watched SyFy but it was still a good way of people getting to watch Anime. With TokyoPop shutting down a few weeks ago, the anime/manga industry is really struggling right now.
Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
they do. funimation channel. had it once a few years ago for verizon cable but I don't have it now sadly but yes america should have an all anime cable channel for all cable providersKomachiHime-sama wrote:actually . . . it DOES effect us and it makes absolutely no sense that . . . if they want us to BUY anime instead of it being pirated or hosted on sites, then they SHOULD STRONGLY push for america to hav a channel dedicated to anime only. i think its a way that everyone can be happy. we watch tha anime which in turn makes tha network tha anime is on more popular and in turn tha creators and animators and publishers get tha money they need! . . . its rediculous that no one has even attempted tha idea when we hav dumb a** CN and AS . . . =/

Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
It's be a great idea, but sadly I don't think there'd be enough of a demand, investment, or interest to keep it afloat for very long.Who is Seiji? wrote:they do. funimation channel. had it once a few years ago for verizon cable but I don't have it now sadly but yes america should have an all anime cable channel for all cable providersKomachiHime-sama wrote:actually . . . it DOES effect us and it makes absolutely no sense that . . . if they want us to BUY anime instead of it being pirated or hosted on sites, then they SHOULD STRONGLY push for america to hav a channel dedicated to anime only. i think its a way that everyone can be happy. we watch tha anime which in turn makes tha network tha anime is on more popular and in turn tha creators and animators and publishers get tha money they need! . . . its rediculous that no one has even attempted tha idea when we hav dumb a** CN and AS . . . =/
Yeah, only Adult Swim really airs anime anymore, and even then it's not much.Cheza wrote:I am still kind of shocked you dont see anime on tv anymore. :/ i wonder the networks got pissed off at Japan or something.
I think it has more to do with the depression and the costs to license, localize, and air anime, which typically are not as popular as American works.

Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
I guess it really is only a small group of us that enjoy anime. :/
Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
No, it's more like there are a lot of fans that don't pay for anime.

I don't think it's a lack of commitment, just a lack of purchases. Unless that is what you meant.Guardian Dragon wrote:they should be punished severely for their lack of commitmentRKOrulez wrote:No, it's more like there are a lot of fans that don't pay for anime.

in the wise and all-knowing words of the ultimate otaku girl, Konata Izumi: "When you love something, don't you want to own everything it has to offer?"
I'm not saying you need to purchase every anime you want to watch, but every now and then it's nice to treat ourselves. and besides, if we take our anime for granted it will eventually turn on us.

Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
AS still has anime, i don't care if it is "good" i know it is not crap...

dam i had a great rant going and i forget what i was going to say...

Re: Another blow to anime on TV in America
I remember fondly the days when AS was the go-to place for anime. Between them and Toonami (RIP), I got more than my weekly dose of anime.
Now, it seems that they're only going after a fraction of anime (though the industry as a whole probably contributed to that), and they're more content with pimping out their comedies than their anime right now.
